It’s common knowledge; Look where your walking/stepping . It’s something that we have been taught since that first step at the age of 3. But it seems that not only the youth but the “grown up” have forgotten to pay attention to their footsteps. Studies are showing an increase in accidents from texting. Yes! Texting! I’m not talking about sore thumbs and swollen pinkies; we’re talking about running into things and sever injuries. In places like the UK precautions have been taken in order to soften the blows.
In the towns and the most heavily foot traffic known places the lamppost, telephone poles, and everything else has been padded. Even though all of this …. Padding is happening in Britain the issue is still happening here. Unaware pedestrians hurting themselves, and placing others in danger. In the news a report of a boy who was hit by a train while he was texting with I mobile. How much longer until we need some padding on our main streets.
The Bigger question would be whether or not texting while transporting one’s self should be legal? A huge percentage of people have cell phones. And the AAA has placed a study stating that 46% of teen’s text while driving and that’s just the teens. What about all the adults; who have a larger need of the texting capability.
The trend of texting has become a danger to the functioning of our daily lives.

Wow, I had no idea that texting went to that extreme – where a city needs to PAD things so its citizens won’t be injured?
I think it’s more the citizen’s fault. If they choose to walk into a pole, then so be in it. I do think it causes a problem with vehicles, but is there any difference between texting while crossing the street or talking on the phone while driving?
Good use of vocabulary in this article. I think it’s absurd that a city would have to be so extreme as to make texting illegal, but if it’s becoming that major of a problem, perhaps I need to step back and rethink. I’m glad I read this post.

…I think we as a species are devolving thanks to technology. We’ve apparently lost motor skills now along with IQ points. With advances coming from every which way, how on earth are we to stop ourselves from going pre-erectus?
Anyway, though, I think it’s nice that the UK gov.’t is taking precautions, but it’s definitely the people’s fault. I think making texting illegal is a silly idea, despite my distate for it. And now, it’s a technique for the survival of the fittest, as well! Interesting.

when i read this post the first thing i thought about was the snapple commercial with the bubble wrap everywhere. Which might just have to become a reality. this is just the mass of people who have no common sense or think they’ll live forever. people just need to stop looking at their screens and instead look where they’re walking or driving.

i text probably more than any person in the world. I go through thousands of texts a month. My mom ha s yelled at me so many times. Texting is an addiction for me, i even text during school. They need to have rehab for texting. I have almost gotton into car crashes because i was texting. Its such a huge distraction when people are driving, its become dangerous.

this post made me laugh. why would you become so focused on texting that you walk into things. all you have to do is look up after every couple of letters or so and you will be fine. On driving and texting, my question for those who do it is why? driving a car is dangerous enough (even though we don’t realize it) without texting. you should be able to wait until you get out of the car, and if it is too important that you can’t wait, pull into a parking lot. You are a lot less likely to die while texting in a parking lot than you are if you text and drive.
